The
Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve includes other waterfalls, such as the
Cascades and Shelter Falls. The gorge at Shelter Falls displays
columnar jointing typical of dol-eritesills.
The
entrance to the Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve is just outside Howick,
on the road to Karkloof. The Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve and
Environmental Education Centre caters for picnics and braais, and the
Reserve includes a number of smaller waterfalls, as well as sandstone
cliffs suitable for rock-climbing, hiking trails, chalets, cottages,
bush camps and fly-fishing spots. The reserve is managed by WESSA,
the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa.
